Whether you are a beauty junkie or a makeup novice, finding the right shade of brow can be quite difficult.
There are so many shades out there, it’s not just a simple brown or blonde, it’s so hard hard to decide so I'm going to make it a little easier for you. I'll go through what colour you should go for with cool and warm toned skin and if you have black, blonde, brown, red, grey hair what shade to use.
So firstly let's explain undertones - if you have light skin with pink undertones, an ashy/grey may suit you best. Pink undertones can be indicated by if you turn pink when you blush. Just think, pink tones, ashy colours. So it could be a brown shade with an ashy tone. A cool shade will give you a more natural look.
If your skin tans easily or you have olive skin, a medium brown ensures that your brows stand out against your complexion.
For dark skin, use a brown that is one or 2 shades lighter than your skin.
So just to keep in mind, the tone of your skin matched with the shade will be the best colour to suit you.
If you want a more natural brow, go with the shade that matches your natural hair colour. If you want a more heavy brow go with one shade darker.
So let's get into specific colours, i have put pictures of celebrities beside the colors to give you an indication of what brow shades can look like with hair colour….
Brown hair is quite difficult to get right as if the shade is too dark then it can look really harsh and if it is too light there is no point filling them in.
General rule again here is to go 1 or 2 shades lighter than your hair colour or match your natural colour.
Red hair can be the most troublesome to get a match, it’s usually trial and error until you get your perfect shade as no one really has red eyebrows! A taupe/brown is an ideal shade to go with.
Blonde. For natural blondes go with a golden shade. If you are platinum or an ashy blonde try a grey colour. However, a golden sunkissed blonde should go with a light brown.
Black hair doesn’t necessarily mean you should go with a black, choose a shade 1 or 2 shades lighter than your hair colour. If you go with total black it may make your brows look blocky or harsh looking.
Grey hair - think like a blonde. As these colours will suit you best.
So that's the undertones and hair colours…..
If you are still worried about your tone/shade you should try a test colour on your skin before applying it. Dab a small amount of product beside your eyebrow. The colour generally as a rule of thumb should look 1 or 2 shades lighter for dark hair and 1 or 2 shades darker for light hair.
The shade should complement your skin tone and hair colour. You'll notice the difference as soon as it's there. Sometimes the oil in your skin can make the product darker so always eir or the side of caution.
